our story

Nestled between Worcester and Villiersdorp, Stettyn Family Vineyards thrives in a region ideal for cultivating high-quality grape varietals. Our close-knit team of passionate wine farmers is led by winemaker JM Crafford, whose innovative approach and attention to detail drive our commitment to excellence.
The farm was acquired by the Botha family in 1818 and has remained in the family for eight generations. Stettyn Cellar was officially established in 1963, with vineyards at Stettyn, Jonkersrivier, De Hoek, and Glenrosa forming the backbone of our production. The tradition of winemaking here dates back many decades, rooted in heritage and refined through modern techniques.

A Proud Heritage…

The land on which Stettyn Cellar stands is steeped in history. In 1714, Governor Mauritz Pasques de Chavonnes of the Dutch East India Company granted the original farm to Free Burghers Jan Cloete and Jan Jurgen Radyn—whose ancestry traces back to the Stettin region in former Prussia. The Cape Dutch homestead, built in 1777 and now a National Monument, was the first permanent residence on the farm.

The early settlers were instructed to plant trees for timber, grain, and fruit to support inland travellers. Today, the majestic oak trees still stand proudly in front of the homestead, and the original mill—with its massive millstone—remains in working condition.

Stettyn lies in a breathtaking valley surrounded by mountains, offering a unique terroir defined by diverse soil types, topography, and microclimates. This combination has earned Stettyn the Wine of Origin status from the Wine and Spirits Board.
PRODUCTION

Wine Production

Wine production on the individual farm’s dates back to the late 1800s. In the 1950s, resources were consolidated to build a modern cellar, with the first wine produced in 1964. This centralisation, along with upgraded facilities, significantly improved wine quality.

Today, Stettyn Cellar cultivates 438 hectares of vineyards (70% white and 30% red varietals), with an annual production capacity of 7,000 tons. Our modern cellar allows us to identify specific vineyard blocks to achieve the desired quality for both bulk and bottled wine production. We focus on barrel maturation and the scientific precision required to craft exceptional wines.
We believe our wines reflect the terroir and the people of Stettyn—proudly represented under the Stettyn brand
